Nine people died and 40 others sustained injuries during a Friday shooting at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hamoud, Jordan. The attack occurred roughly 120 kilometers southwest of Amman during a funeral service, with witnesses describing several minutes of continuous gunfire.

State television reported that security forces arrested three armed suspects on Monday. The Public Security Directorate stated that officers tracked the men to an abandoned house in Karak governorate. The suspects refused to surrender and exchanged fire with the security team. Officers wounded the three men and took them into custody during the confrontation.

Officials confirmed that no security personnel were injured in the exchange. Authorities recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from the detained suspects. The directorate did not release the names of the men or identify specific links to Islamist militant organizations. Jordanian officials have labeled the attackers as extremist terrorists, though no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.

King Abdullah ordered a decisive response to the assault on the country's Christian minority. Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya announced that authorities are investigating the circumstances that drove young people toward extremism. He stated that anyone found to be part of the attack will be held accountable.

Jordan remains one of the more stable nations in the Middle East, making such violence rare. Officials noted that they have disrupted several Islamist militant plots in previous years. The Public Security Directorate issued a statement declaring that terrorism has no place in the nation. The statement added that the suspects had met their just fate.
